PHARAOH'S GOLD

Being exclusive to this brewery & no distribution, this special beer didn't need a barcode. (January 25th, 2022)

The beer title letterforms were originally the yellow colors of "liquid flowing gold", but stand out more when dark with gold accents, making all the golden yellows more balanced overall.

Working out the layout while waiting for production of beer numbers.

Details being worked out in Illustrator. (~December 2021)

Brewery owner Anthony "Sizzle" Perry has plans for a special can release for Crafted Culture's 1st Year Anniversary celebration.
The goal was to create a custom beer label design to execute his vision of this symbolic new beer called "Pharaoh's Gold".

Female Pharaohs being the first brewers, my concept was illustrating a pharaoh goddess emerging from a giant goblet of beer, or "liquid gold", as the most sacred drink of time, while tributing to Crafted Culture's brand voice of recognizing African American culture & honoring our African American women.

I illustrated a stylization of Pharaoh goddesses "Amunet" & "Twosret". Amunet's name in hieroglyphics is a feminine noun meaning "The Hidden One" and so utilizing black as the background especially is symbolic of her shadow. Twosret was the last known ruler of ancient Egypt, making her the final pharaoh of the 19th Dynasty. Without her, the late 19th Dynasty was described as a time of chaos. Utilizing pronounced curves in her figure is symbolic of that strength & endurance, as well as her crown or "nemes" to symbolize her power.

I created a color palette that would fit with the brand & also to symbolize African American culture by incorporating colors most commonly used in African flags. It was important to integrate the three most respected colors of Kwanzaa, which represent "unity": black for the people, red for the noble blood of African ancestry, & green for the rich land of Africa.

The shape of this pharaoh's earrings come from the ethanol molecule: this organic chemical compound is naturally produced by the fermentation of sugars by yeasts, & the active ingredient in alcoholic drinks. Beer would not exist without this essential little molecule.

PANAMA CRUNK JUICE

This is one of those projects that worked itself out naturally & I thoroughly enjoyed playing with so much color! (02/11/2022)

The flattened 2D image extracted from the 3D can model always gets distorted, so I'm using that as a guideline layer here to create the entire layout of the label.

This was my first time experimenting with color & brush effects on a simple 3D can model in Procreate, which ends up being a better presentation than a drawing. (02/02/2022)

Getting a sense of layout from mind to paper.
Crafted Culture is planning to release a different beer they've never done before for their 1st Year Anniversary celebration.

Panama Crunk Juice contains a variety of hops that will dance around your palate balanced with the pleasing brightness of pineapple & mango flavors. The goal was to execute a concept just as "fun" as this exciting beer will taste.

The concept was inspired by the album "Crunk Juice" (by group Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz) & its most successful era of hip hop dance & music. It is believed that American rapper Lil Jon himself invented a cocktail consisting of red bull & Hennesey brandy & called it "CRUNK JUCE" or "CJ". The name given to this wild Southern hip hop music genre is "crunk" (short for crazy drunk), which emerged in the early 1990's & gained mainstream success during the mid 2000's. Illustrating 'gangsta' pineapples & mangos in an energetic street art/graffiti & colorful style visually communicates the spirit of this age of hip hop.
